This weekend, Friday, I drove "Sassy" (my very old, very much loved, but not so pretty Dodge Van) to tennis camp, Newk's, near Austin. I originally thought I was going to go with my friends and fly home on Sunday to catch my neice's 1st bday party but found out flights were full. So tank full of gas off I go with the tennis team caravaning between a beautiful Lincoln town car, and a Lincoln Navigator. (a Lincoln sandwhich LOL)
Almost to the tennis camp, suddenly, boom Sassy's gauge goes way hot. Crazy hot! So I quickly turned on the heater and it made the gauge go back to normal (owning used cars all my life, this is second nature) - and called the Lincolns and told them Sassy needed some gas. I quickly pulled into a gas station and checked out the situation, motioning my friends to go on ahead. They are very sweet, fun and wonderful and on their way to play some heavy duty tennis. Thinking about car trouble would dampen a tennis players spirits.
The tennis camp was near by, and my car was not hot at all - I did fill up with gas and we journeyed over to Newks. I can not tell you how awesome it was, tennis camp. You know the feeling when you wake up and see a beach and you can;t wait to get out on the sand. It is that same way at tennis camp. Our condo was on the second floor and when you woke up , all you could see was tennis courts. Way beautiful.
Sunday morning I needed to get Sassy some help before our long drive, so I left earlier then my team. (I did not tell them I was having an issue) If I needed help they would be behind me anyway..... sooo
I soon pulled into a gas station. My hood is not on right so it takes 2 people to get it open. Luckily this nice guy with a huge truck that could honestly drive right over me and Sassy pulled out from getting gas and offered to help. He was like some guy from a Mad Max movie. Iwas like "woa, that is one huge truck!" He said his tires on his car cost 2500 each. They were taller then me. When he got out of his truck he honestly had to jump. It was awesome!!
So not only was Patrick (my new friend) able to open my hood, he had the car talk down. Bets and I were just talking the other day how guys today are not as interested as they used to be in cars... for whatever reason. This guys knew everything.
It was determined that I did need water and coolant in my radiator. Patrick even offered to buy me the coolant but I told him coolant - I could buy, a new car -not so much. And smiled. He had a thing-a-ma-gig that tested the car and gave me the code to get it fixed and he also turned off my engine light that had been blaring at me. Jake says - it was not that big of a deal. And it really wasn't until now.
Patrick said that if the light stayed off my entire trip then I really do not have a problem, just that the engine needs to be cleaned real good. Anyway - while Patrick who just got out of church - was fixen my car, I offered him my last beer from my tennis camp. Not a real beer , just a very very light beer (so wishing I had a man beer) He said no mam'. Then I asked him if he had a facebook - and I think he actually smirked at that one and said no he does not do that social networking thing. :)
I tried to make small Pirate talk. For folks like Patirick - it is hard to figure out this Piratehearts stuff. I asked for his card and I gave him my Piratehearts business card. I do not think he is going to sign up on meet-up or anything, but I did want to write him a thank you note.
Anyway - guess who he was..... A freakin moble auto mechanic!! I said no way - that is awesome. He refused to take any money and then he noticed my falling head liner and said..... Tammy you need to get this liner in Sassy fixed (yes by now even Patrick knows my van's name :) I said , yes I do..... I am getting her hood painted and I think my husband and I should put a pirateheart on the hood. ha ha He smiled and said come see this.
I tippy toed up to his window and peered up at his headliner , and no pirates or anything - but Patrick had his whole liner decked out on hunting material. He did it himself, and showed me how. I thought pirateheart material maybe in Sassy........
My new friend Patrick said goodbye, and he climbed back into his truck and I got back into Sassy and drove back to Dallas - and yes my tennis team was behind me just in case. I made it safely home and Jake & I drove to Margaoux's 1st bday party and the world was good. The engine light stayed off and is still off. So very excited about that.
More so - very excited about meeting a good ole boy from San Marcus. No website , well now he has a really good Yelp business review and this other ad thing I made for him so hopefully he will get some more business. "Patrick's Mobile Mechanic" 512-579-1663 in case you are in the Austin / San Marcus Area....
Have a Great Day!
